Hello! I am Kevin Turley and I have dedicated the last 29 of my 47 years of my life to serving others. My dedication to serving the public began as a teenager as I joined the Cadet Program with the United States Air Force Auxiliary - Civil Air Patrol. My primary interests in the program were emergency services (ground team and observer in the aircraft) and aerospace education. I advanced through the cadet ranks and eventually served as the Cadet Commander.
After graduating high school in 1995, I began serving as a firefighter. Wishing to expand my ability to serve, I earned my EMT license in 1997. I then went on to earn my Advanced EMT license. In 2002, I earned my law enforcement officer certification. I continued to serve as a firefighter, licensed EMS provider, and law enforcement professional before moving to Daleville, Alabama where I could utilize all three skill sets under one roof. Being a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserve, the Daleville community was also great being at the main gate of the Home of Army Aviation, then Fort Rucker (now Fort Novosel).
I began to feel led to serve Daleville as an elected servant and, in 2020, I answered that calling to serve and I asked my neighbors of Daleville to allow me to earn their vote. On August 25, 2020, you humbled me with entrusting me with your vote. Receiving the most votes of the running council members was the most humbling (the council members in Daleville all run for office at large and the top five vote recipients receive a seat on the city council).
Three things were promised to you, my boss, when I asked to have the honor of earning your vote.
1. I promised to remain in touch with you, listen to you, and provide feedback. I am doing this through this website, social media (social media information can be found below), email newsletters, published phone number to text or call, and quarterly town hall style meetings. Town hall meetings are meetings that are designed to allow a question/answer session and solicit feedback. These meetings are being conducted as a private citizen and not on behalf of the city. Check the Community Town hall section on the welcome page of this website to see the date, time, and location of the next town hall meeting. As of the Summer of 2023, the Daleville Area Chamber of Commerce has been hosting the quarterly event where they invite the mayor, council members, and department heads to a town hall style meeting and I began combining my town hall meetings with theirs to best serve our fellow citizens. It is OUTSTANDING that the town hall meetings have grown into this!
I have created a newsletter to help keep you informed. I will NOT spam you. The target is one to two emails each month. To subscribe to the newsletter, simply send an email to KevinTurleyDaleville+Subscribe@groups.io and you will be signed up.
2. I promised you I would serve to the best of my ability. I hit the ground running as soon as you entrusted me with your vote. Even before being sworn into office, I paid for multiple courses with the Alabama League of Municipalities in order to get started on the voluntary training program. In 2021 I graduated the Alabama League of Municipalities Certified Municipal Official. From my understanding, Council Member Horace, Reese, and I are the only Certified Municipal Officials serving on the Daleville City Council. I am now working towards earning my Advanced CMO certification.
In addition to seeking knowledge on how to better serve you through courses and networking, I am also doing my best to represent our city at events both in the city as well as elsewhere. I think we all agree that it is important for elected servants to be present and support local businesses at ribbon cuttings and other achievements. It is also important for us to show that our city appreciates having events held in Daleville. These events provide entertainment for our community and they draw visitors to our city which can help support our local businesses.
3. I promised you that I was going to donate my council salary to help programs within our community. I have done so and there is a section of this website dedicated to the transparency of the donations. Regular recipients of the donations are various programs at the Daleville City Schools, Daleville Public Library, Boys and Girls Club of Daleville, the annual free community Thanksgiving meal provided by Chopper’s Ol School BBQ, and veteran service organizations.
I have spearheaded the process for Daleville to earn the designation of an Alabama Community of Excellence. This is a multi year process which bridges a partnership between citizens, business leaders, city leadership, and more to facilitate charting short and long term goals, improving our community, and setting ourselves up for success.
I am working with others to help bring additional recreational, family, and other events to Daleville to help bring additional life to our city.
No one person can make all the positive changes we want to see in our community. It takes working together as elected servants, city employees, business leaders, citizens, and property owners. Over the last few years I have personally seen an increase in community involvement and other improvements. I pray that we continue on the path of success together.
I will continue to work with everyone to help improve the image of Daleville to continue to improve our city.
In addition to serving as one of your five city council members, I also serve our community and state at large in the following volunteer capacities:
• Public Safety Committee Member with the Alabama League of Municipalities
• Advocacy Coordinator for Alabama with the National Association of EMT’s
• District B Emergency Coordinator (10 counties in southeast Alabama) for the ARRL Alabama Section
• Executive Director of the Department of Alabama AMVETS
• Commander of the Southeast Alabama American Veterans (AMVETS) Post 7
• Director and Advanced EMT of Dale EMS and Rescue Squad (all volunteer)
• President of the K-9 Addi Memorial Foundation which provides training grants for qualified public safety K-9 units
• Board Member of the Daleville LGSC (Legacy, Growth, and Skills Community) which seeks to mentor the youth in our community
• Instructor for EMS, law enforcement, and amateur radio courses
• Designated training coordinator for the southeast Alabama area for the Alabama Association of Rescue Squads
I sincerely appreciate the privilege of being allowed the honor of serving you. Please feel free to reach out to me if you ever have any questions, concerns, or feedback.
